DELE B2 Spanish Practice: Grammar & Vocabulary Tests

DELE Main Hub | DELE A2 | DELE B1 | DELE C1

The DELE B2 exam tests your ability to understand complex texts, argue a position, and interact with fluency and spontaneity. It certifies that you can handle abstract topics, technical discussions, and extended written production. This page collects all our B2 practice tests, organized by topic.

Each practice page includes a five-set quiz: an evaluation set to see where you stand, three practice sets to drill the topic, and a challenge set to confirm mastery. Every page also includes a full grammar review below the quiz. Work through the topics in any order.

B2 is the level most universities require for admission, and it is the threshold for professional work in Spanish. It does not introduce entirely new grammar — it deepens the subjunctive, extends the conditional system, and demands control across registers. Start with the evaluation set on each page to see where you stand.

What the DELE B2 Exam Is

The DELE B2 is the upper-intermediate diploma from the Instituto Cervantes. It certifies that you can understand the main ideas of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, interact with native speakers with fluency and naturalness, and produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of subjects .

B2 is the level most universities require for admission. It is also the threshold for professional roles that demand Spanish. Unlike B1, which focuses on everyday situations, B2 asks you to argue, evaluate, hypothesize, and mediate between different positions.

The exam is offered multiple times a year at authorized centers worldwide. Results are permanent — the diploma does not expire.

Exam Structure at B2

The DELE B2 tests four skills across four papers. You need 60% overall to pass, and a minimum score on each of the two groups .

Grammar and Vocabulary Tested at B2

The main grammar points tested at B2:

  • Imperfect subjunctive (both -ra and -se forms) in unreal conditionals
  • Present perfect subjunctive in temporal clauses with future value
  • Pluperfect subjunctive in past unreal conditionals
  • Subjunctive vs. indicative contrast in substantive clauses (opinion, doubt, emotion)
  • Conditional simple and compound (hypothesis, probability, desiderative)
  • Future perfect (anteriority, probability in past)
  • Relative clauses with prepositions and el cual
  • Concessive clauses (aunque, a pesar de que, pese a que)
  • Impersonal se + 3rd person
  • Reported speech with tense shift
  • Textual markers and discourse connectors
  • Periphrases: deber de, ponerse a, aspectual constructions
  • Ser vs. estar with change-of-meaning adjectives

Vocabulary themes at B2 are broader than B1: work and professions, education systems, media and communication, government and society, ecology, advertising, business, housing, travel, and leisure .

Frequently Asked Questions

The DELE B2 is the upper-intermediate diploma from the Instituto Cervantes. It certifies that you can understand complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, interact with native speakers with fluency and naturalness, and produce clear, detailed writing on a wide range of subjects. B2 is the level most universities require for admission, and the threshold for professional work in Spanish.

From B1, most students need 6–12 months of consistent study to reach B2. That assumes regular practice across all four skills, not just grammar drills. From scratch, B2 is roughly 500–600 hours of guided instruction. The exam rewards exposure to authentic texts and audio, so practice tests alone are not enough.

You need 60% overall, but the score is grouped. Group 1 combines reading and listening. Group 2 combines writing and speaking. You must reach 60% in each group, not just overall. A strong reading score cannot compensate for a weak speaking score. Each group is scored out of 50 points, so you need 30 points in each group to pass.

B1 certifies that you can handle everyday situations and familiar topics. B2 certifies that you can handle complex texts, argue a position, and interact with fluency and spontaneity. The grammar overlap is significant, but B2 demands deeper control of the subjunctive, longer written texts, and faster listening. B2 is the level most universities require for admission.

These practice tests drill the grammar and vocabulary that the DELE B2 tests, using the same task types you will see on the exam: multiple choice, gap-fill, and contextual choice. They are not full mock exams — they are topic-specific drills. Use them to master the grammar, then take a full mock exam from the Instituto Cervantes website to test the exam format itself.
